I'm planning to run down to the Senate Appropriations Committee, so I don't have a chance to write much. The Indianapolis Star reported on the deal struck behind closed doors between Senator Luke Kenley and everyone that will benefit from the increased taxes. Taxpayers were locked out of the process.
The hearing is at 9:00 a.m. While several bills are on the calendar, I don' know whether the Capitol Improvement Board amendment will be heard first, so people need to be there early just in case. They may well try to limit the number of speakers.
There are so many things to write about on this proposal, which, again, I don't have time to do this morning. So I will focus - briefly - on the political end. Today, Mayor Greg Ballard will be ending any political future he might have had when he testifies in favor of this backroom deal to jack up taxes and fees across the board to bail out the super secret Capitol Improvement Board and give the Pacers $15 million more. To compound matters, it appears that Marion County Republican Chairman Tom John has decided to put the full weight of the local GOP behind Ballard's efforts to raise taxes. It is apparent that John has given up even the pretense of holding onto the Mayor's office in 2011 or having a Republican majority on the council. What's sad is that the local Democrats are even worse on this issue than the Repubicans, yet local Republicans have decided to be the fall guys for the tax increases.

Pitchforks & torches to the City County Bldg. the evening this is up for consideration at the CCC. Pack the room with Hoosiers and signs.
Greg Ballard was nothing but a fraud put up by our corrupt politicians to insure they maintained control. They owned Bart Peterson and Greg Ballard. So nothing ever really changes here in Indianapolis. Both political parties are corrupt and both work together to benefit the already rich by using the tax dollars of the poor. It is time to abandon both parties and to protest by staying away from all downtown events at the Dome, Fieldhouse and Convention Center. No dinner or drinks downtown.
Passive resistance works for me, boycott all of the downtown activities, no pacers, no colts, avoid dining out (at least in Marion County) and vote for none of the above in the next election.
Chandler is so right...nothing changes in Indiana. The corporations have a R and a D in their stable to make sure all the bases are covered.
When the locks are changed on the mansions and offices the friends of the party in control just send in the other friend from a corporation and the benefits just keep rolling along.
It is kind of like donkey basketball. After a while all the donkeys on the floor look alike. Only the rider changes..........
