|Gov. Mike Pence (R-IN)|
That list doesn't even begin to touch upon Trump's personal flaws - his serial womanizing, his penchant for getting involved in scams (google "Trump University" and the "empty jewelry box"), his bullying and threats against people who don't support him, his bigotry, his sexism, his mocking of people who are disabled. Oh, and let's not forget, Trump's obviously limited intellect and his complete lack of understanding and respect for the Constitution and the limits that document places on the Office of the Presidency. As one observer noted, Trump is the caricature of what the Democrats think when they look at the Republican Party.
Pence at times has - rightly - been criticized as too willing to give in on conservative principles to embrace positions seen as more moderate. Whether it be Pence's support of allowing local governments to impose higher taxes, "Common Core lite," corporate welfare, and his reluctance to defend religious freedom when attacked, conservatives have a legitimate gripe against the Governor. But on the occasion when it counted most, who to endorse for President, Pence did not take the easy way out by shying away from an endorsement (which would have been understandable given the contentious re-election battle he faces) or jumping on the Trump populism bandwagon, he announced his endorsement for the most consistent conservative in the race, Ted Cruz.
Thank you Governor Pence.
That endorsement will cost Pence my vote in November. Guess I'm part of the "Pence must go" crowd.
Yeah, Anon 2:06, I'm pretty sure he didn't have your vote anyway. You'd be more comfortable voting for liberal Democrats anyway.
Seriously Paul could Pence have done any more tepid of an endorsement of Cruz? You are correct when you say conservatives have legitimate grievances with Pence. Endorsing Ted Cruz does nothing to change that fact! Pence has had more than enough chances to stand up for principles and he has failed every time! Also as an attorney himself he knows the disciplinary committee's case against you was nonsense and that you were shafted. But he let you get crucified. Some "Christian" he is! I got a news flash for you the Indiana Republican Party that you, I and so many other conservatives knew and loved is gone. The state party will never forgive your standing up against Jim Atterholt or your role in removing Scumbag Lugar from office! If you want any hope of getting back the GOP you loved. You are going to have to be unrelenting in your opposition to the forces that have hijacked the GOP. Trying to reach a halfway point will not work. That's like being a little bit pregnant. Also why do you give any moral sanction to Pence? He avoids responsibility like the plague, when all you do is take responsibility for your life and actions? Why do you one of the most moral and upright of men live your life by one set of standards, make excuses for men like Mike Pence and let them live and act in ways you would rather die than live like? The fact that Pence appointed Atterholt to be his Chief of Staff should by itself be enough to cause any person worth there salt to reject him!
Trump is a lifelong liberal who has taken on this persona that is a "caricature...of the Republican Party." And he's the frontrunner for the nomination. So, maybe what that means is that the caricature isn't that far from the truth!
This will hurt Pence more then it will help Cruz, but that's just how Cruz rolls, costing better men their elected positions for his own benefit has been Cruz's MO since the day he became a Senator.
Also Ogden, while I think Pence is too deferential to local government, conservatives really have no one but themselves to blame for the higher taxes. If conservatives wanted to they could boot out many of our local officials ( its not that hard compared to beating someone like Lugar)
But they usually sleep on local races in favor of talking overmuch about National Politics.
Also if Pence were any less deferential to local governments, he'd have a major problem. Dems already complain that Republicans in the Statehouse are "anti-home rule"
And at least two Republican state senators this cycle have had primary challenges instigated against them by liberal local officials ( namely Pete Miller and Luke Kenley) over changes to TIF that the local spenders didn't like.
Paul, before Cruz started running for president, he sounded a lot like Trump on foreign policy, but has since become a frothing wannabe warmonger. Pat Buchanan, who worked for Reagan, says Trump is carrying the Gipper's mantle on foreign policy, traditionally where the president has the most power. I know Trump flips and flops around like the best politicians, but don't you think a less bellicose foreign policy is the more traditional conservative position, such as "Mr. Republican" Senator Taft?
I am not getting the love and hate going on within the republican party. I am not a fan of Gov Pence, I do not think he as competent as others, but he appears to be competent enough.
And between Cruz and Trump, I would rather have Cruz. At least Cruz has stayed consistent with his morals. The Trumpster changes his mind with the frequency of the wind changing direction.
Indy Rob, which day of the week are you talking about when it comes to Donald Trump's foreign policy? He changes it constantly. I do believe Trump is the only candidate who might start WW III because some country's leader personally insulted him or his wife. He is that unstable. Do you really trust him with his finger on the nuclear button? I sure as heck do not.
Pence had absolutely no say of what the DC was doing to me. He has no power to stop the discipline of any attorney in the State of Indiana. I think you underestimate how many Republican friends I have. I just don't have a lot of Establishment GOP friends. But that is likely due to my unrelenting criticism of RINOS, not the Lugar or Atterholt matters.
Pence still could have hired you and asked for your help in straightening out the mess that Mitch Daniels put this state in. It's true that Pence inherited huge messes. But he had a choice about weather or not to replace Daniels cronies and he choose to keep them. He could have appointed reasonable people, and asked real Republicans like you and Gary Welsh for advice in help on how to reform the state. Instead he chose to knuckle under to Daniels and his gang. How much of the continuing problems that Indiana has are on his head? Lugar is a former US Senator of 35 years and Atterholt is a Daniels stooge you honestly think that your troubles with Jimmy Atterholt and Dick Lugar aren't at least partly to blame for your issues with establishment Republicans? Are you not aware of how corrupt Lugar was as Mayor of Indianapolis and then as a Senator? You don't think that his friends aren't out to destroy you? Your Republican friends such as they are have been powerless to help you. True Republicans like you, Gary Welsh, and Christine Scales do not control the State GOP the establishment hacks you despise and take on do! Does Jeff Cardwell even hold a candle to Rex Early? You are being punished for your virtues by men and women who only want you to be an unthinking automaton. Pence could be a man and help you but instead he waste his time listening to fools. Give up this illusion that Pence is redeemable it should be obvious he is not. The only hope is to let the GOP disintegrate in the Hoosier state and to rebuild it from the ground up. You, Gary Welsh, and Charlie White are traitors in the eyes of the Republican Establishment and the Indianapolis Press. If that is hard for you I am truly sorry. But the minute you tried to stand up to the Daniels gang you earned the establishments disdain. They will not forgive it. Others of us authentic republicans have accepted the RINO Indiana GOP Elites consider us traitors and we are working to boot the evil ones from the GOP. One of these days you will have to face the fact Pence is not your ally and never will be. Face it now before reality forces you to.
This may be the best impression of Trump's foreign policy speech last week...
Paul Ogden is a chickenshit little bitch and a stupid fuck. The only thing Paul proves is that you don't have to be smart to be a lawyer. You can be the dumbest fucker on the planet, like Paul, and still become a lawyer. Do the world a favor, kill yourself.
